heffield City Council (SCC) has put forward proposals for a Category C Clean Air Zone (CAZ) to be implemented from late 2022. If the CAZ goes ahead, buses, taxis, vans and lorries that do not meet SCC’s emissions standards will have to pay to drive in and around the zone.
Under the new plans, the following charges will apply:
- Taxis and LGVs (vans, campervans and pickup trucks): £10 a day
- HGVs, buses and coaches: £50 a day
Charges will not apply to private cars or vehicles that meet the following standards:
- LGVs, minibuses and taxis (Hackney Carriages and Private Hire) which are Euro 6 Diesel or Euro 4 Petrol
- HGVs, buses and coaches which are Euro VI diesel
The zone will cover the inner ring road and the city centre, including Park Square and the A61/Parkway junction. To view a map of the CAZ, click here.

More information on who is eligible for this support will be made available in a second consultation to take place in November.
